Retirement Reception: After a career of nearly 33 years, Jerry Brusewitz will retire from OSU on
April 5. A retirement reception will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. on April 4 in
122 Ag Hall. A book of letters will be presented during the reception. Those who
wish to contribute a letter may submit it to Jana in 111 Ag Hall by Friday,
March 29.
Oklahoma Beef Congress: The 2002 Oklahoma Beef Congress will take place April 3 at Oklahoma
Feeders, Inc. near Guthrie. The registration deadline is March 27. For more information, contact Fred Ray, Extension Animal
Foods Specialist, at 405-744-6058.
Williams
Honored: Joe
Williams, Professor, Agricultural Economics, has been named the recipient of the
Golden Torch Faculty Award, which is presented annually by the Achafoa Chapter
of Mortar Board. The award is given in an effort to recognize an outstanding
faculty member for his or her significant contributions toward the success of
students. Congratulations to Joe Williams.
Another
Williams is Honored: Sue Williams, Extension Family Policy/Energy Specialist, was recognized
as the recipient of the 2002 Professional Award during the annual Oklahoma
Association of Family and Consumer Sciences meeting at the University of Central
Oklahoma in Edmond.
Program
Receives Recognition: The Oklahoma Nutrition Education Program has been given an Honorable
Mention in the Oklahoma Department of Human Services 2002 Quality Awards. This
program was selected because of a 211 percent statewide increase in productivity
between September 2000 and September 2001 among all agencies and universities
participating in the program. Glenna Williams, Program Coordinator at OSU, will
receive the award on May 8 from DHS Director Howard Hendrick. There are 36
counties in Oklahoma participating in the Oklahoma Nutrition Education Program
through OSU.
Research Award:
Glenn
Muske, Extension Home-Based and Micro Business Specialist, was named the
recipient of the 2002 Lela O’Toole Research Award. He received the award
during the annual Oklahoma Association of Family and Consumer Sciences meeting
at UCO in Edmond.
Winters
Recognized: Ida Fay Winters, Jackson County Extension Educator, is the recipient of
the Lynda Harriman Outstanding Extension Leader Award. The award was presented
during the annual Oklahoma Association of Family and Consumer Sciences meeting
at UCO in Edmond.
Smolen Honored: Mike Smolen, Extension Water Quality
Specialist, received an award for “Outstanding Dedication and Leadership as
Chair of the National Water Quality Leadership Team, 1998-2001. the award was
presented at the National Water Quality Coordinators Conference in Boise, ID.
EQIP Grant: Mike Jeffcoat, Jefferson County Extension
Educator, Agriculture/4-H Youth Development, and CED, received a $7,100
Environmental Quality Improvement Program grant to help further study of soil
characteristics and the re-establishment of grass following the recent extreme
weather in Southwest Oklahoma.

Condolences to: Joyce Martin, Director, Staff and Program Development, on the death of her husband, Fred. He passed away March 14. Funeral services were held March 18 at Cowboy Junction, a church near Vinita. A memorial scholarship fund has been established for the Martin children at Banc First in Stillwater.
