Voucher
Spreadsheets Updated: The travel voucher
spreadsheets have been updated. They are on the OCES intranet at http://intranet.okstate.edu/Fiscal_Affairs/travelpg3.htm.
You may also access them on the OAVP&C website at http://www.okstate.edu/oavpc/policies/travproc.htm.
The various travel vouchers (in-state, out-of-state etc.) have
been separated into individual files and there is one minor but
important change--the addition of a date field for the claimant's
signature. Please make sure that your area is using the updated
form with the date.
Walker Wins Award: Becky Walker,

Information On-Line: The Oklahoma
Watermelon Anthracnose Model is now on-line for the 2002 growing
season. This is a weather-based management tool that can be used
to schedule fungicide applications for anthracnose in watermelon.
It utilizes temperature and relative humidity data from the
Oklahoma Mesonet. The Internet address is http://agweather.mesonet.ou.edu/models/watermelon.
Two other disease-related weather-driven models also are
available on-line. The Oklahoma Pecan Scab Model, which also
provides guidance for fungicide applications, is located at http://agweather.mesonet.ou.edu/models/pecanscab.
In addition, the Oklahoma Peanut Leafspot Model can be found at http://agweather.mesonet.ou.edu/models/peanut.
A Mesonet user-ID and password are required to access certain
sections of these models. Anyone associated with OSU can apply
for a free premium level subscription. The form can be downloaded
at http://agweather.mesonet.ou.edu. For more information, contact
J. D. Carlson at 405-744-6353, or Al Sutherland at 405-224-2216.

OQBN Sales Scheduled: The Oklahoma
Cattlemens Association has scheduled eight Oklahoma Quality
Beef Network Sales for later this summer and fall. OQBN is a
joint effort between OCA and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension
Service. The weaning and pre-enrollment deadline is 45 days prior
to the sale date, so considerable planning is necessary. The
schedule is as follows: September 9 at Idabel, weaning and
pre-enrollment is July 26; September 25 at OKC West, El Reno,
weaning and pre-enrollment is August 11; November 6 at OKC West,
El Reno, weaning and pre-enrollment is September 22; November 12

Recycling Program is Beneficial: The
Plastic Pesticide Container Recycling Program, a cooperative
effort between the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and
Forestry, and the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, helps
protect the environment. It also gives pesticide applicators an
alternative to disposing of their pesticide containers in
landfills. Through a grant from ODAFF and OCES, the Pesticide
Applicator Education (PAE) Program at OSU manages the program.
USAg Recycling, Inc., in Waller, TX, collects the containers free
of charge. The recycled plastic can be used for pallets, parking
blocks, fence posts, and marine pilings. Last year the program
collected a total of 21,173 plastic containers. Nearly 34,000
pounds of containers were recycled and kept from being disposed
of in landfills. Extension Educators from around the state, in
conjunction with OSU PAE, schedule public drop-off sites to
recycle these containers. The locations and dates of this
years program are on the Internet at http://entoplp.okstate.edu/pestrep/index.html.
For more information, contact Charles Luper, Extension Associate,
Entomology and Plant Pathology, at 405-744-5808, or email at
luper@okstate.edu.
Deadline Extended: The August 1
deadline for submitting the Oklahoma 4-H Core Competencies Unit 1
Evaluations has been extended to September 1. All data will be
collected online and the tool is not yet available. Counties will
be notified when the evaluation is accessible. County staff are
strongly encouraged to complete a paper copy of the 6 month
Evaluation of Unit 1 Core Competencies Use and County Extension
Educator's Observations of Recognizable Changes in Competency
Levels in an effort to assist you in completing the electronic
version in a timely manner. Please be sure you are using the
correct forms. Do not use the form titled "My 4-H Volunteer
Functions and Competencies End of Year Evaluation." This
form is for volunteers only.
District 4-H Program Specialists will be returning the first set
of 6 month evaluations. Each county will be expected to input the
data on the electronic data base. All volunteers who have
participated in county volunteer education/training opportunities
this year should complete the form titled "My 4-H Volunteer
Functions and Competencies End of Year Evaluation." The
deadline of August 1st has also been extended to September 1st.
Counties will be responsible for submitting the data for each
evaluation collected. All forms can be accessed on the web at http://clover.okstate.edu/fourh.
Click on the Volunteerism link.
Annual 4-H Club Treasurer Reports Due: Each 4-H club is
responsible for completing an annual report of the 4-H club
treasurer. The form is available in "Building Toward Our
Future" or can be accessed under Volunteerism on the
Oklahoma 4-H web site at http://clover.okstate.edu/fourh. These
reports were due in county offices on June 1st. The materials
should be reviewed by the 4-H Educator and placed in the
clubs file. It would be acceptable for the educator to ask
a volunteer with accounting experience to assist in the review of
club reports.
