Cattlemen’s Conference Slated: The Grady County Cattlemen’s Conference is set for Feb. 3 at the Grady County Fairgrounds. The “Back to Basics” Conference will consist of Doug McKinney covering value added marketing, Bob LeValley speaking on the County of Origin Labeling System, Glenn Selk presenting his back to basics cow-calf operation guidelines, and Stan Bevers, Texas A&M Extension, talking about the Cattleman Survival Kit for 2009. Registration is at 8:30am and will conclude at lunch, which is provided. Oklahoma Environmental Law Enforcement Training Seminar: In conjunction with USDA Rural Development, OSU Agricultural Economics Extension, Solid Waste Programs, is sponsoring an informative seminar for enforcement officers, environmental managers, and decision makers. “Oklahoma Environmental Law Enforcement Training Seminar” will take place Feb. 4 in Oklahoma City. Michael Freeman, senior criminal investigator for the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) will conduct the one-day seminar at ODEQ offices. In addition to peace officers and sheriffs, anyone may attend to gain expertise in environmental crimes investigations involving solid and hazardous waste, open burning, illegal dumping, and air and water pollution. This is a CLEET accredited training event.  For more information, or to pre-register, contact Ilda Hershey at 405-744-9806, or e-mail at ilda.hershey@okstate.edu.

Faculty Members Pass Exams: OSU’s Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering would like to announces that three of its faculty members recently received notification that they passed their professional engineering examinations. Two of the faculty members, Carol Jones and Robert Scott Frazier, have Extension appointments. The third member who passed is Mark Wilkins.

Congratulations to: Gloria King, Southwest District Program Specialist, Family and Consumer Sciences, on the birth of her granddaughter. Emily May Tucker was born Dec. 19, 2008, weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 20 inches long.  Proud parents are Amanda and Adam Tucker. 

Congratulations to: Dirk Webb, Washita County Extension Educator and CED, on the birth of his grandson. Jaxon “Jax” Quaid Dennistion was born Dec. 20, 2008, weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 19 inches long.  Proud parents are Shannon (Webb) and Phil Dennistion.

Condolences to: The family of Ron Robinson, retired Garfield County Extension Educator, Agriculture/4-H Youth Development, and CED. He passed away Dec. 22, 2008. Funeral services took place Dec. 27, 2008. He began his Extension career in 1975 and retired in 2003. Condolences may be sent to his wife, Eva, at #8 Thousand Oaks, Enid, OK  73703.

Condolences to: Wayne Smith, Bryan County Extension Educator, on the death of his father. Leonard Delton Smith passed away Dec. 26, 2008. Graveside services took place Dec. 28,2008, at the Kemp Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Equestrian Trail Riders Scholarship Fund, c/o Ann McFarland, P.O. Box 724, Harrah, OK 73045.  Condolences may be sent to Wayne and his wife Mary at P.O. Box 749, Durant, OK 74702.

Condolences to: The family of Ward Blocker, former director of Fiscal Management for OCES in the 1970s. He passed away Dec. 30, 2008. Funeral services took place Jan. 2.

Condolences to: Carole Wood, former Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Educator and CED in Seminole County, on the death of her husband Roy Lee Wood.  He passed away on Jan. 3, 2009. Messages of condolences may be sent to the family online at www.swearingenfuneralhome.com

Condolences to: Nancy Dunlap, Southeast District Program Specialist, 4-H Youth Development, on the death of her mother. Nancy Sue Thomason passed away Nov. 15, 2008. Funeral services took place Nov. 18, 2008, at the Harvey-Douglas Centennial Chapel in Ardmore. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation, the SE District 4-H Scholarship Fund, or the American Heart Association. Cards may be sent to Nancy at 1303 Mockingbird Lane, Ada, OK 74820.
