I look forward to another great year in 2009 and wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Announcements

Delegates Return from National 4-H Congress: Seventeen Oklahoma 4-H’ers returned recently from taking part in National 4-H Congress in Atlanta. This event is one of the largest youth development conferences in the country. More than 1,300 youth from around the country attended the event that took place Nov. 28-Dec. 2. For nearly 90 years National 4-H Congress has provided youth a quality, educational and cross-cultural experience that exceeds what any state independently can provide.

Road Trip to Dallas Market: With a grant awarded from the Marilyn Burns Endowment Fund, Janna Kelley, Extension Educator and CED, Pontotoc County, successfully orchestrated a two-day educational opportunity to Dallas Market for potential business owners or those looking to expand their business. Kelley, along with Extension Educators Debbie Sharp, Ginny McCarthick, Phillis Cothren, and Sandy Lackey, and Rural Enterprise’s (REI) Barbara Rackley in partnership, organized the trip. There were a total of 43 participants. Glenn Muske delivered a marketing lesson via the bus media system while Rackley spoke on creating business plans during the drive to Dallas Market.  Participants arrived at Dallas Market for a tour and informative educational lesson provided by Jill Robertson. Other activities included visiting Neiman Marcus and the Galleria for window and product display examples. The second day included a tour of Harry Hines Boulevard wholesale outlets and Fixture King, a supplier of fixtures for businesses to display their products. The return trip involved sharing stories and identifying successes. As a result of this trip, 10 potential and existing business owners successfully signed up to be buyers at Dallas Market and evaluations reflect the trip was an overwhelming success. Many reflected they are better informed to pursue business opportunities and requested the group to form a network. Other Extension Educators who participated in the event include Lani Vasconcellos, Megan Logan, Robyn Jones, and Susan Moffat.
