ANNOUNCEMENTS

Farm to You Exhibit:  Farm to You is a traveling interactive adventure for elementary school children that follows food from the farm to the market and through the body to explore relationships between agriculture, food, and health. It is designed to support healthy Oklahoma nutrition education efforts. The Farm to You web site currently is under construction, but should be on-line soon. It can be found at www.farmtoyou.okstate.edu, and will include the school manual, station scripts, a PowerPoint presentation description of the exhibit, a media packet, and the scheduling calendar. Diana Romano is the exhibit coordinator and she is housed in the Oklahoma County Extension Office. Schools and groups wishing to schedule the exhibit should contact their local county Extension office. County Educators will then contact Romano to schedule the exhibit. Congratulations to: Daniel Skipper, Southwest Area Agricultural Economics Specialist, and his new bride. Daniel and Kristin Huber were married July 12.

Congratulations to:  Reyna Rivera, Jefferson County Parent Child Connections Family Assessment/Support Worker, on the birth of her son. Ilan Alexander Diaz was born July 29, weighed 3 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 18 inches long.

Congratulations to: Trinity Brown, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, and CED, Pawnee County, and her husband, Jerod, on the birth of their daughter. Maelee Rae was born July 30, weighed 7 pounds, 13 ounces. She is welcomed home by big sister Taelor.

College Corner

Meat Judging Team Wins International Contest: The OSU Meat Judging Team brought home the championship after taking first place in the Australian National Meat Judging Contest in Australia. Ten teams from Australia competed, along with the national team from Japan and OSU. The team also won Beef Judging, Lamb Judging, Placings, and Reasons/Questions, and won the Roy McDonald Shield. The team placed second in Pork Judging and third in Retail Identification. Team member Kelly Manke dominated by placing 1st in every competition except Lamb Judging. Breanna Winters placed 4th highest individual; Brendon Lowe, 7th high individual; and Kashen Urban, 8th high individual. Lacey Vedral placed 2nd in beef judging. Coaches for the team are Gretchen Hilton and Andrea Garmyn.

AWARDS

Packer-Feeder Game Gains National Recognition: The team of Clem Ward, Derrell Peel, Jim Trapp and Stephen Koontz received national recognition for having the outstanding Extension program for a group at the American Agricultural Economics Association meeting that took place July 27-29 at Orlando, Fla. They received the Distinguished Extension/Outreach Program for “The Packer-Feeder Game – An Experiential Learning Program.”
