ANNOUNCEMENTS

State Represented at Water Conference: Oklahoma was represented by a contingent of seven people at the CSREES National Water Conference in San Antonio February 5-9. Oklahomans who attended include LaDonna McCowan, Jamie Mundy, Josh Payne, Mike Smolen, Maifan Silitonga, Alan Vandeventer, all of OSU, and Chongo Mundende, Langston University. Mundy presented an oral report on the Demonstration Farm at Spavinaw Creek. Vandeventer presented an oral report on Wellhead Education Conducted by Oklahoma Youth, and Silitonga presented a poster on Drinking Water Education in Under-served Communities. The Oklahoma reports were well received. Summaries of these and other reports are available at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/WaterConf2006/default.aspx.

  COLLEGE CORNER

Farm Credit Seeking Applicants: Farm Credit of East Central Oklahoma is accepting applications for the Student Board of Directors Program. This program is designed to provide opportunities to students who wish to gain leadership skills by participating in an academic/corporate agricultural finance experience. This includes exposure to the function of a board of directors and the development of decision-making skills relative to the functioning of an agricultural cooperative. All students currently enrolled in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University are eligible to apply. Each student selected will receive a stipend for their participation. Applications are available in 136 Ag Hall. Application deadline is March 24. For more information contact Dr. Bailey Norwood, Agricultural Economics, at 744-9820.

Deadline Nearing for Regents Distinguished Teaching Award: The deadline to submit nominations for the 2005 Regents Distinguished Teaching Award is February 24. All departmental nomination portfolios should be submitted to 136 Ag Hall. The CASNR Committee on Effective Teaching will review the materials and will make a recommendation for forwarding up to three names to the Office of Academic Affairs by the March 13 deadline.
