NOTES FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Second Century Initiative:  Thank you for your efforts toward our Second Century Initiative.  By now, all of you should have made contact with key stakeholders in your county and mailed letters inviting legislators to eat lunch with you on April 27 for our Second Century Initiative Day at the Capitol.  Timing is crucial and I encourage you to put forth every effort to make these contacts, visits, phone calls, etc., in order to be successful in obtaining funding for our Second Century Initiative.  Legislative committees have received their budget allocations and this is a good time to visit with your House and Senate members when they are back home on the weekends.  Your influence played a major role in the success of our previous initiatives and we must have you on board to make it happen again!  Thanks so much to all of you for your valiant efforts and all that you do for the Division as a whole.

Governor’s Conference on Agriculture and Economic Growth:  As you know, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry is sponsoring the Governor’s Conference on Agriculture and Economic Growth again this year.  This year, the conference is gong regional with a program in Clinton on April 28-29 and another program in Muskogee on May 5-6.  Watch county pouch mail next week for fliers on the conference.  Please share copies of these fliers with whomever you think might be interested in attending.  Detailed information, and the registration form, may be found on their Web site at www.oda.state.ok.us.  For those of you within a reasonable distance to the conference, you might consider inviting a producer or two to ride with you if you attend.  We have been working with the program planning committees and I appreciate your getting the word out on this 2005 Governor’s Conference.
