Tulsa County 4-H’er Honored: Tiffany Grant, a member of the Sperry 4-H Club in Tulsa County, has been named one of the top four runners-up in the 2004 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Oklahoma.  The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are part of a broad initiative created by Prudential to encourage young people to become involved in community service. She is being recognized for her impressive community service activities. Last year she led an effort that raised more than $2,500 to pay for dresses, shoes and beauty sessions for 19 underprivileged girls so that they could attend the high school prom. Her goal this year is to outfit 100 girls.

Condolences to: Arleen James, Texas County Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, on the death of her son, Second Lt. Luke James. Lt. James was killed by an improvised explosive device on January 27 near Iskandariyah, Iraq. A memorial service conducted by the OSU ROTC units was held on the OSU campus on February 10 to coincide with the  burial service at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. A memorial book was held this week in Thatcher Hall for individuals to sign and will be presented to Mrs. Molly James and ultimately to their 6 month old son, Bradley James.  James, a native of Hooker, OK, graduated from OSU with a degree in animal science and a commission into the Army on December 13, 2002.  He was deployed to Iraq on January 14, 2004, as platoon leader with Bravo Company 2nd Battalion 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment.  An article published in the February 10, 2004, issue of The Daily O’Collegian may be found at www.ocolly.com .
