Seminar Slated: Aaron Johnson will be on campus June 21 to present “Food Entrepreneurship and the Land Grant University,” a seminar dealing with the Land Grant University’s role in the development of new food companies. Johnson is with the Food Innovation Center (FIC) at Oregon State University. The seminar will provide an introduction to the FIC and how Land Grant Universities fit into the development of new food companies. The event will take place at 3:30 p.m. in the Kerr Auditorium, 201 Food and Agricultural Products Center.  4-H Leadership Conference: Volunteer leaders with the Oklahoma 4-H Program will meet in Stillwater July 16-17 for the State 4-H Leadership Conference. This year’s theme is “4-H for All Seasons.” Each county volunteer of the year will be recognized, and the state volunteer of the year will be honored. In addition, volunteers will have the opportunity to attend numerous educational workshops and share information with fellow volunteers.  Science Camp: Youth ages 11-18 will have the opportunity to learn about biotechnology, sensor technology, and global positioning satellites, as well as construct and launch a hydro rocket, when they attend the 2004 Science Camp that is being held in conjunction with the State 4-H Leadership Conference July 16-17. Registration is $35 and enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. For more information, contact Jeff Sallee at 405-744-8885.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

First Place Finish: Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering’s Cowboy Motorsports 1/4-scale tractor teams took top honors at the recent international competition sponsored by the American Society of Agricultural Engineers at Moline, Ill. The senior team took first place overall in the design competition, competing against 29 teams from the United States and Canada. The team placed first in the categories Pull Performance and Serviceability, third place with their written report, third place for Web site design, and fourth in Presentation.  The team also tied for first place in Sportsmanship, an award voted on by all of the teams in the competition.  They won the Campbell Scientific Award as well, which recognizes the best electronics application in the design of the tractor. Not to be outdone, the OSU X-team, consisting of freshmen and sophomores who modify and enter the previous year’s tractor, defended their top title by placing first overall and first in Pull Performance.
