Current Events

Cooperative Conference Slated: Opportunities for non-traditional cooperatives to benefit producers and rural communities is the focus of the Oklahoma State University “Cooperative Opportunities” annual cooperative conference slated March 20. The conference will take place at the Clarion Hotel Conference Center in Oklahoma City. Participants will explore concepts for cooperatives that look at harnessing wind for rural benefits, managing landscapes, and adding value to agricultural commodities. New Date Set for Extension Supporter’s Day: Tuesday, April 30, is the date set for Extension Supporter’s Day at the Capitol. The group will meet in the rotunda on the FIRST floor. More detailed information will be sent soon.

Calling for 4-H Memorabilia: The state 4-H office is in the process of archiving the history of Oklahoma's 4-H program and preparing a display. If you have any memorabilia and/or photographs you are willing to donate or loan to the state 4-H office, please contact Gina Schutte at 405-744-7960 or schuttg@okstate.edu. In particular, we are looking for a Moses Trophy (a historical national 4-H award), historic ribbons and uniforms, historic items with the clover emblem, and photographs of Roundup in the 20's and 30's.  However, any historic 4-H pieces would be appreciated.

Harriman Honored: Lynda Harriman, Assistant Director, Family and Consumer Sciences, and Assistant Director, 4-H Youth Development, is the 2002 recipient of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Distinguished Service Award. The Distinguished Service Award is the most prestigious award given by the AAFCS and is presented annually to extraordinary Family and Consumer Science professionals.

New Fax Number: The Garfield County & Enid -Area Office has a new fax number. It is (580) 242-1955. Please make this change in your 2002 Personnel Directory.

Goodner Wins Awards: Gale Goodner, Oklahoma County Communications Specialist, has been recognized by the Society of Professional Journalists with two awards. The first award was presented for her newsletter design and development. The other was presented for her news releases. This recognition comes from her peers in this organization, which represents membership from large, prominent media outlets.

Webb Recognized: Dirk Webb, Washita County Extension Educator, Agriculture/4-H Youth Development, has been selected as the “Professional Person of the Year” in Washita County. The award is sponsored by the Cordell Professional Women’s Club.

Grants Support New Program: Jeff Baumann, Extension Educator, Agriculture and 4-H Youth Development, Cotton County, has been instrumental in garnering grants that will fund a new 4-H archery program. He worked to stack smaller grants and contributions in order to attract a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart.

Congratulations to: Shane Osborne, Assistant Extension Specialist, Southwest Research and Extension Center, and his wife, Tami, on the birth of their son Samuel Harris Osborne. He was born February 23, and weighed 1 pound, five ounces. He currently is in the neo-natal intensive care unit at Children's Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Condolences to: Tracy Branch, Events and Activities Coordinator, Agricultural Education, Communications, and 4-H Youth Development, on the death of her mother, Christeen Branch, who passed away February 22. Funeral services were held February 26 at the First Baptist Church in Bradley.
