Announcements

Graduate Courses Offered: Graduate students have several options for classes for the Spring 2002 semester. Classes include AGED 5823 ADV METH TCHG AG is offered in Stillwater (16895), by distance (18044), and at OSU-Tulsa (17719).  It meets from 1:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. on Wednesdays. AGED 5940 STYLES LDRSHP AG EDUC is offered Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in Stillwater.  The CID# is 17560. AGED 6100 DEV IN AG & EXT ED is offered Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to12:50 p.m. in Stillwater.  CID# is 10253. AGED 6223 PROG EVAL IN AG & EXT is offered in Stillwater (10261), by distance (18045), and at OSU-Tulsa (17721).  It meets Mondays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:10 p.m.

Summer 2002 courses include AGED 5202 GRANTSEEKING. It will be offered June 10-14, 8:40 am to 4:00 p.m. CID# is 13387. AGED 5990.241 FUTURING IN AGRICULTURAL ED is offered for the July session Monday through Thursday from 8:40 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. The CID# is 12953.

If you are enrolled at OSU in Stillwater, regular enrollment procedures apply. If you wish to take any courses via distance or at OSU-Tulsa, please call Bonnie Mibly at 405-744-5129 for more information.

Retirement Reception: Ronnie George, former Northeast District Extension Director, is retiring after 33 years of dedicated service to the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.  For the past few months, Ronnie has been working on special assignment with the OCES Associate Director. A retirement reception is planned for December 13 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Northeast District Extension Office, 230 W. Okmulgee in Muskogee.

New Web Site: The new Biotechnology in Food Safety web site is now on-line and ready for your use. Visit http://agecon.okstate.edu/gmo. This site is a follow-up of this past summer's workshop, "Biotechnology: The Science and The Issues in Food Safety." The site features downloadable presentations from the workshop, current issues in biotechnology, a handy list of other related web sites, and even an "ask the expert" section.  For more info, contact Pat Bolin, 405-744-9420, bolinp@okstate.edu.

4-H Delegates Return From Atlanta: Seventeen Oklahoma 4-H’ers returned from Atlanta after representing the state at the 80th National 4-H Congress, November 23-27. This event was the kickoff to the centennial celebration of 4-H. The group attended workshops, toured Atlanta and heard a variety of educational and motivational speakers.

Fee Waiver Reminder: Fee waivers for the 2002 Spring Semester should be submitted no later than December 21 to 245 Ag Hall.

Team Competes: The Grant County 4-H Meat Judging Team represented Oklahoma at the National Meat Judging Contest at Manhattan, Kansas. The team placed 3rd in retail identification, 5th in reasons, and 6th overall. Scott Price, Extension Educator, Agriculture/4-H Youth Development, and CED, and Greg Highfill, Area Extension Livestock Specialist, coach the team.

Congratulations to: Carol Laverty, Harper County Extension Educator, on the birth of her grandson, Caleb Dustin Laverty. He was born September 13, weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and was 21 inches long. Caleb’s parents are Shadden and Anjanette Laverty.

Condolences to: Kaye Tipton, Noble County Extension Educator, on the death of her mother Catherine Tipton. Catherine passed away November 20. Funeral services were held November 23 at the National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association.
