Extension News

Vol. 1 - No. 1

About This Newsletter

Extension News is intended to provide Extension faculty, educators, and staff with access to the latest happenings in the agency on a regular and timely basis. During the next few months, we will issue Extension News on the first Friday and third Friday of each month. If, at some point, it becomes apparent that we can generate enough material to put the newsletter out weekly, we will do so.

Trisha Gedon will serve as the editor and as your contact whenever you have news items to submit. Trisha’s e-mail, phone, fax and address are wizofoz@okstate.edu, 405-744-3625 (phone), 405-744-5739 (fax), 307 PIO, Stillwater, OK  74078. Items must be received by the first Thursday and third Thursday of each month in order to be included in Extension News the following day.

Extension News will be distributed electronically.  It will be sent directly to all Extension employees via email. In addition, it will be placed on the Extension web site at the same time. The web site address is http://intranet.okstate.edu/newsletter.

Current Events

Travel Reimbursement Rates:  State travel laws as amended in the past legislative session became effective on July 1st.   Authorized reimbursement rates will vary with location.  Those important to most Extension employees include:

Oklahoma City           $65.00/night lodging                $38.00/day per diem

All other Oklahoma

Locations                    $55.00/night lodging                $30.00/day per diem

A complete listing for out of state locations can be found at

http://www.policyworks.gov/org/main/mt/homepage/mtt/perdiem/perd01d.html

These changes do not affect reimbursement for mileage.  That rate is tied to the IRS allowable rate and is not likely to change before January 1, 2002.

County Advisory System:  A committee charged with examining the way in which we use our county advisory committees and how that process might be strengthened to better support our program advisory and advocacy process at the district and state level has been appointed.  Ron Justice will chair the committeeMembers include Joe Benton, Dave Williams, Recia Garcia, Dee Cooper, Brenda Miller, Lori Johnson, Don Britton, and Ginny McCarthick.  The first meeting is scheduled for July 16thJami Longacre will provide staff support for the committee.

July 1st Salary Adjustments for County Educators:   The legislature recently approved $500,000 for Level II of the Extension Enhancement Initiative. This funding was distributed effective July 1st.  Level II funding is earmarked for county educators in an effort to meet competition for entry-level hires and retain experienced educators.
