Frontier City Fundraiser to Benefit Military Children: Oklahoma 4-H Operation: Military Kids is teaming up with Frontier City for a fundraising opportunity to raise money to support programming for Oklahoma military children. All Oklahomans are invited to come to Frontier City June 25 or June 26 at the discounted price of $15 per ticket. Regular priced tickets are $36.99. Tickets must be purchased online at www.frontiercity.com in order to get the discounted price. In the upper right hand corner of Frontier City’s website, type in the promo code MILITARY. For every ticket sold Oklahoma 4-H Operation: Military Kids receives $1, so spread the word and help us support military kids in Oklahoma. This offer is valid for anyone regardless of military status. On June 26, Playhouse Disney’s Choo-Choo Soul will be in concert at Frontier City. Richardson and Lee Present Workshop: Tari Lee, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, Craig County, and Debbie Richardson, Parenting Assistant Specialist, presented a workshop at the NIFA Children, Youth, and Families At-Risk (CYFAR) 2010 Conference in San Francisco on May 4-7. The workshop, I Can Problem Solve: Teaching Children How to Think, presented program concepts and activities, how the program has been implemented in Oklahoma by the Family Resiliency Impact Team (Growing Strong Families), and evaluation procedures and findings.

Youth Participate in National Land and Range Judging Contest: Nearly 650 4-H and FFA members from around the country took part in the 59th Annual National Land and Range Judging Contest in El Reno May 4-6. The El Reno Federal Correction Institution hosted the event on its FCI Farms. An awards banquet took place the last night of the contest at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Hackett Honored: Kevin Hackett, Northwest District 4-H Program Specialist, was presented with the 2010 National Land and Range Judging Contest Honoree Award during the 59th Annual National Land and Range Judging Contest that took place in El Reno May 4-6. He was honored for helping with the contest in a variety of roles for more than 25 years.

County Training Program Recognized: The County Training Program (OCES at OSU) recently received two awards at the National Association of Community Development Extension Professionals (NACDEP) conference in Minneapolis. All members of the County Training Program received the Southern Region Excellence in Teamwork award for “The County Government Elected Official Certification Program.” Team members are Notie Lansford (Program Chair), Ann Embree, Karin Ragsdale, Judy Rudin, Sherri Schieffer, Suzanne Grooms Spears, and Sonya Tutten. The County Training Program provides training and technical assistance to county government elected officials and personnel in Oklahoma. Lansford, Embree, Rudin, and Schieffer also won the Southern Region Education Piece - Team Award for “The Purchasing Handbook for Oklahoma Counties.”
