CURRENT EVENTS

GardenFest is TOMORROW: The 12th Annual GardenFest will take place TOMORROW, Sept. 21 at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Art in the Garden.” For more information visit The Botanic Garden at OSU website at www.botanicgarden.okstate.edu, or contact Stephanie Larimer at 405-744-5404.

 

Field Tour Slated: The Caddo Research Station Field Tour will take place Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. Peanuts and cotton will be covered. There is no registration fee and a meal will be provided. For more information please contact John Damicone at 405-744-9962, or via email at john.damicone@okstate.edu.

 

Concert Series Starts Next Week: The Autumn Nights Concert Series kicks off Sept. 27 at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University, 3300 W. 6th St.  Folk artist Monica Taylor will kick off the series Sept. 27. Additional concerts will take place Oct. 4, Oct. 11, and Oct. 25, each from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Concert goers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and a picnic supper and enjoy an evening of music with their family.

 

Native Plant Materials Conference: OCES, along with OSU’s Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture and The Botanic Garden at OSU, will host the Native Plant Materials Conference Oct. 10 at the Wes Watkins Center. Workshops will be taught by industry and academic specialists. Workshop topics will include overviews of appropriate native plants for Oklahoma and peripheral states. Early registration is $85 and due by Sept. 30. After that day registration is $130. Lunch is included. Online registration is available at https://secure.touchnet.com/C20271_ustores/web/index.jsp. Click on the “Horticulture Landscape” Store and then select “Conference Registration.”

 

Rural Economic Outlook Conference: The Department of Agricultural Economics will host the Rural Economic Outlook Conference Nov. 1 in the Conoco-Phillips Alumni Center on the OSU Campus. A reception will take place the prior evening, Oct. 31, in the Atherton Hotel lobby. Keynote speakers include Joel Kotkin, an internationally known social thinker, OSU’s own Jayson Lusk, author of the Food Police, and Nathan Kaufmann from the Omaha branch of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank. Participants are asked to register by Oct. 25. The conference agenda and registration information may be found at http://agecon.okstate.edu/extension/ruralconference.asp.

Congratulations to: Austin Moore, TV Producer/Director, Agricultural Communications Services, and his wife, Melissa, Senior Administrative Support Assistant, BAE, on the birth of their daughter. Ella Leone was born Sept. 18, weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 191/2 inches long. Ella is welcomed home by big brother Tucker.

Condolences to: The family of Edwina Kelly, retired Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, Lincoln County. Edwina passed away Sept. 6. Funeral services took place Sept. 12 at Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee. Edwina worked within the Extension system from April 1987 until her retirement in July 2007. Cards may be sent to her husband, Paul, at 43708 45th St., Shawnee, OK  74804.
