Water Conservation WorkshopDid you know you can have beautiful landscaping while using a lot less water? Experts from Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension will show you how TOMORROW, Aug. 10, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the OSU/OKC Campus’ Agriculture Resource Center, room 196, 400 N. Portland. Topics include proper irrigation for maintaining a healthy landscape and appropriate plant selections for Oklahoma City. Participants will learn about resources available for homeowners and see an outdoor water irrigation audit demonstration. The workshop is free and participants are encouraged to arrive early for coffee and donuts. The OSU experts also will conduct workshops at neighborhood association meetings upon request and availability. Article Published in June Issue of JOE: An article entitled “Simple Lawn Irrigation Measurement Training for Master Gardeners and Homeowners” has been published in the June 2013 issue of the Journal of Extension. Justin Moss served as lead author, with co-authors including John Haase, Jason Vogel, Tracy Boyer, and Dennis Martin. The article may be found at www.joe.org/journal-current-issue.php.

Article Accepted for JOE Publication: Eric Rebek, Mike Schnelle, and Kathleen Kelsey had their greenhouse integrated pest management work, “Adoption of Integrated Pest Management Practices Among Oklahoma Greenhouse Producers: A Case Study for Experiential Learning,” accepted for publication in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Extension.

 

 

New OAE4-HA Officers Elected: Members of the Oklahoma Association of Extension 4-H Agents meet recently for the group’s annual state meeting. In addition to attending educational workshops, members also selected new officers. The 2013-2014 officers are Cathy Allen, president; Daniel Neely, president elect; Becky Walker, vice president; Cathleen Taylor, secretary; Steve Beck, treasurer; Julie Starr Staiger, Southeast District representative; David Adams, Northeast District representative; Jessie Furnish, Southwest District representative; and Tomas Manske, immediate past president.

Gibbs Earns Degree: Congratulations to Marie Gibbs, CNEP Nutrition Education Assistant in Creek County, for earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development from OSU in July.

New Citizen: Jeannette Johnson, CNEP Nutrition Education Assistant in Tulsa County, has completed the requirements for citizenship. She becomes an official citizen of the United States Aug. 13. Congratulations!

        Congratulations to: Tyler Richey, Extension Educator, Agriculture/4-H Youth Development, and his wife, Allison, on the birth of their son. Wade James was born July 25, weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces, and was 20 ½ inches long.

        Cathy Allen Honored: Cathy Allen, Extension 4-H Curriculum Coordinator, was presented with the Oklahoma Beef Quality Assurance Service Award at the recent State 4-H Roundup. Congratulations!

        DASNR Group Wins Award: Ray Huhnke, Amanda Erichsen, Mike Buser, and Craig Woods were recently awarded an ASABE Educational Aid blue ribbon for their entry “Developing a Sustainable Biomass Production System.” This is a collection of 50 short videos detailing the various components of the USDA/DOE funded Biomass Research and Development Initiative (BRDI) project being led by Oklahoma State University. 

        Sparks Receives Award: Congratulations to Dave Sparks, Area Food-Animal Quality and Health Specialist, for receiving the Oklahoma Beef Quality Assurance Producer Educator of the Year Award for 2013. He was presented with this award by the Oklahoma Beef Council during the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association Annual Convention in July.

        OAE4-HA Members Recognized: While participating in the group’s annual statewide meeting, members of OAE4-HA also took time to recognize the achievements of their peers. Award winners include:
