Water Conservation Workshop: Did you know you can have beautiful landscaping while using a lot less water? Experts from the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service will show you how during a workshop slated July 20 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The workshop will take place at the OSU/OKC Campus’ Agriculture Resource Center, room 196, 400 N Portland. Topics include proper irrigation for maintaining a healthy landscape and appropriate plant selections for Oklahoma City. Participants will learn about resources available for homeowners and see an outdoor water irrigation audit demonstration. Arrive early for coffee and donuts. The OSU experts also will conduct workshops at neighborhood association meetings upon request and availability. Congratulations to: Denise Menke, Senior Secretary, Carter County, on the birth of her grandson. Cameron Christopher Neal was born May 28, weighed 9 pounds, and was 21 ½ inches long. Proud parents are Christopher and Toshia Neal. Cameron is welcomed home by big sisters Breann, Aubrey, and Kyndal. 

Condolences to: Pat Thompson, Coordinator, Ag in the Classroom, on the death of her father. Rev. R.P. Thompson passed away May 20. Funeral service took place May 23 at the Council Road Baptist Church in Bethany. A fund has been established in Rev. Thompson’s name to aid Oklahoma’s tornado victims. Donations may be sent to Council Road Baptist Church, 2900 N. Council Road, Bethany, Oklahoma, 73008. Cards may be sent to Pat at 15 Elmwood Dr., Stillwater, OK  74074.


Congratulations to: Dave Lalman, Extension Beef Cattle Specialist, who will be presented with the 2013 American Society of Animal Science Extension Award at this summer’s Federation of Animal Science Societies meeting. This is the highest Extension award granted by the American Society of Animal Science. He will be the sixth OSU Animal Science faculty member to receive this honor since its inception in 1959. Other OSU faculty members receiving this award include Bill Luce, 1988;  Don Gill, 1989; Keith Lusby, 1993; Joe Hughes, 2001; and Glenn Selk, 2008.
