Null Invited to Join Advisory Council: Lynn Null, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, Comanche County, has been invited to join the National Overcoming Obstacles Educational Advisory Council. Overcoming Obstacles is a relevant life skills program that is geared toward middle and high school students. The primary purpose of the council is to review the Overcoming Obstacles Life Skills Program and ensure its relevance to the contemporary needs of students as well as the teachers and administrators implementing the program.  Lynn has been instrumental in bringing the Overcoming Obstacles Life Skills Program to Oklahoma as an approved curriculum with both the Job and Employment Readiness and Risky Youth Behavior OCES-FCS Issue Teams. 

OEAFCS Elects Officers: Members of the Oklahoma Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences met recently in Oklahoma City for the group’s annual statewide meeting. In addition to attending educational workshops and recognizing accomplishments, the group also elected its 2013 officers. This year’s officers are Susan Routh, president; Sonya McDaniel, president-elect; Tracey Watts, vice president for professional development; Kristy Spalding, vice president for member resources; Liz Gardner-McBee, vice president for awards and recognition; Joy Rhodes, secretary; Brenda Miller, treasurer; Rachel Lockwood, treasurer-elect; Jessica Riggins, Northeast District director; Linda Latta, Northwest District director; Sue Hamilton, Southeast District director; Diana Romano, Southwest District director; Janice Cranor, historian; Radonna Sawatzky, chaplain; Ginny McCarthick, past president; and Jorge Atiles, advisor.

Condolences to: Barbara Brown, State Food Specialist, on the death of her father. Daniel “Dan” Morris Reed passed away May 8. Funeral services took place May 13 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner, Kan. Memorials may be made to the church at 138 E. Shawnee, Gardner, KS  66030. Card may be sent to Barbara at 1005 W. Brooke Ave., Stillwater, OK  74075.

Condolences to: Kimberly Williams, Family and Consumer Sciences Evaluation Specialist, on the death of her father. Bruce Williams passed away May 9. Funeral services took place May17 at the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel. Cards may be sent to Kimberly at 5005 W. 2nd Ave., Stillwater, OK  74074.



OEAFCS Members Recognized for Achievements: Joint the Journey was the theme of this year’s statewide OEAFCS statewide meeting. While at the meeting, members took part in a special awards luncheon to honor the many achievements of their members. Award winners include:
