Southwest District Extension Director Named:  I am pleased to announce that Bob LeValley has been offered, and has accepted, the position of Southwest District Extension Director and will officially begin his duties in that role on October 1.  I would like to thank each and every one of you for your participation in the interview process and for the valuable input I received.  All three candidates were highly qualified applicants and each had unique strengths to bring to the position.  I appreciate the work of the Search and Screening Committee, and a special thanks to Dr. Dan Thomas for serving as Chair and leading the group in this important process.  Please join me in congratulating Bob and offering him your support as he leads the Southwest District to meet the challenges of the future.                                                                                                                                                                                                 Jim Trapp



Tree Care Conference Registration Deadline Nears: Arborists, nursery professionals, urban foresters, landscape managers, landscape architects, master gardeners, and advanced hobbyists have an opportunity to get the latest research-based information regarding tree care. Slated Oct. 3 at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus in Stillwater, the Tree Care Issues seminar will focus on all aspects of tree care. Registration is $80, includes lunch, and must be postmarked by Sept. 24. Master Gardeners, Extension Educators, members of The Botanic Garden at OSU, and students may register for $60. Condolences to: Sue Hamilton, CNEP Area Coordinator, Southeast District, on the death of her mother-in-law. Ola Hamilton passed away Sept. 8.  Funeral services took place Sept. 12 in Allen, OK. Cards may be sent to Gary and Sue Hamilton at 16965 CR 3534, Ada, OK  74820.


4-H’ers Compete in Horticulture Judging: There were 55 4-H’ers who took part in the 4-H Horticulture Judging Contest that took place Sept. 15 at the Oklahoma County Extension Office. First place Junior Individual was Susan Weckler, Payne County; first place Junior Team was Payne County (Team 1), consisting of Karen Weckler, Susan Weckler, Josephine Grissom, and Carson Voelker. First place Senior Individual was Kyle Dowd from Bryan County; first place Senior Team was Bryan County (Team 1), consisting of Teigan Munson, Allison Robinson, Kyle Dowd, and Clay Shires. Congratulations!
