Winter Canola Conference: The 8th Annual Oklahoma-Kansas Winter Canola Conference will take place July 26 in Enid, and July 31 in Altus. The conference will cover topics such as economics of wheat/canola rotations, production management, varieties of insects and diseases, insurance, and industry update. Both sessions will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Enid event will be held at the Hoover Building at the Garfield County Fairgrounds, and the Altus meeting is slated to take place at Western Oklahoma State College. Free lunch and door prizes are included. Please contact your local OSU Cooperative Extension office for more information.


Facebook Now Helps with Oklahoma Pond Management: You are encouraged to view and post to a new Facebook page called Managing Oklahoma Ponds. This page is designed to allow Ag Educators to share photos and questions about pond management. For additional information contact Marley Beem via email at marley.beem@okstate.edu.

Congratulations to: Steve Bonds, Accountant, DASNR Extension Finance Department, and his wife, Carey, on the birth of their son. Grant Allen Bonds was born June 7, weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 21 inches long.


SUNUP Wins ACE Awards: Oklahoma State University’s agricultural television show SUNUP recently earned four awards from the international Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Life and Human Sciences. SUNUP’s program on the 2011 Oklahoma canola harvest won ACE’s top video honor with the Outstanding Professional Skill award in the electronic media, video category. The canola show also garnered a gold award in the programs category. In addition, SUNUP earned the gold award in ACE’s news and features category for “Here Comes Bullet,” a story about OSU’s beloved horse mascot that carries the Spirit Rider at all home football games. SUNUP also captured a bronze award in the programs category for its special report, “Oklahoma Drought: A New Generation.”
