ANNOUNCEMENTS

Schnelle Lectures Internationally: Mike Schnelle, Extension floriculture specialist, represented Oklahoma State University from June 2-17 at Methodist University, Katanga in Mulungwishi, Democratic Republic of Congo. He lectured to first and second year agriculture students at the school, and also consulted with nearby mine personnel, Fungurume Mining Company, regarding their potential to cooperate in agricultural/horticultural projects with Methodist University and Oklahoma State University.

Journal Article Published: Eileen St. Pierre, Personal Finance Specialist at OSU; Charlotte Richert, Tulsa County; Susan Routh, Grady County; Rachel Lockwood, Haskell County; and Mickey Simpson, McClain County, collaborated on the article “The Financial Education Tool Kit: Helping Teachers Meet State-Mandated Personal Finance Requirements.” The article was published in the June issue of the Journal of Extension. Congratulations to: Rhonda Ellison, Sr. Extension Secretary, Harmon County, on the birth of her grandson. John Hunter Shaw was born May 24, weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 21 inches long. Proud parents are Shawna and Johnny Shaw.

Congratulations to: Sean Hubbard, Communications Specialist, Agricultural Communications Services, and Dallis Kuhn, on the birth of their daughter. Chanley Robin was born June 18, weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 20 ½ inches long. 

AWARDS

Oklahoma County 4-H Robotics Club Recognized: The Board of County Commissioners of Oklahoma County recognized the Oklahoma County 4-H Robotics Club as Oklahoma’s champions in the sport of High School Robotic Competitions. For the past several years this group has consistently placed either first or second in the local BEST Robotics Competition, and has made it as high as second place in the National BEST Robotics Competition. Earlier this year the club took top honors as the only Oklahoma team to be in the winning alliance at the Oklahoma City FIRST Regional before advancing to compete at the World Championship in St. Louis where they placed in the top third of the 400 teams competing. Congratulations!

State Archers Participate in National Invitational: Oklahoma 4-H archery club members competed last week in the 2012 4-H National Invitational in Grand Island, Neb. Oklahoma’s compound team consisted of Eric Norman, Perry; Brogan Williams, Stillwater;  Devin Comstock, Woodward; and Matthew Sennett, McAlester. The team placed 4th overall, with Comstock placing 7th individually. The recurve team, including Blaise Newman, Pioneer; Dason Gillenwaters, Mooreland; Dillon Chaloupek, Canton; and Dillon Pospisil, Hennessey; placed 2nd overall in the FITA event. Newman was 3rd high individual and Chaloupek placed 6th. The recurve team also placed 5th on the Field Range and Newman was 5th high individual. In the 3-D Range competition, Comstock placed 9th individually. Congratulations to all those who participated!
