Recycling Seminar Slated: The Oklahoma Recycling Association will host “Recycling Across Oklahoma: Urban, Suburban and Rural,” Oct 13 at the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center in Stillwater. Registration is $60. OKRA members may register for $60 and student registration is $15. Fees include all sessions, continental breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks, parking, and an optional, post-seminar tour of Stillwater Public School’s cafeteria vermicomposting operation. Topics include updates, economic outlooks, future trends, and changes in the industry, as well as case studies of successful recycling and composting programs. Household hazardous waste, tire collections, e-waste, master recycling programs, and Walmart’s Zero Waste Program also will be covered. Sessions will be led by industry, government, and nonprofit experts. The 2011 Oklahoma Recycling Seminar is sponsored by Greenstar Recycling, ODEQ, OEMA, the Choctaw Nation, OGE Energy Corp., the Indian Nations Chapter of SWANA, Sierra Club Oklahoma, and OSU’s Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Natural Stream Corridor Restoration and Enhancement Workshop: Mark your calendar for Nov. 8-9 and attend the Natural Stream Corridor Restoration and Enhancement Workshop that will take place at The Botanic Garden at Oklahoma State University. This is a two-day workshop focusing on the techniques used to stabilize eroding streambanks and reestablishing a healthy riparian area using native plants. The first day will cover engineering methods utilizing natural material and processes. The second day will focus on vegetation selection, installation, and maintenance. Condolences to: Shirley Derryberry, Stephens County Extension Sr. Secretary, on the death of her son-in-law. Dean Bowles passed away Oct. 2.
