NOTES FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Summer Schedule for Extension News: Extension News will be going to a new schedule over the summer as things slow down a bit between the spring and fall semesters. Publication dates for the summer will be June 16, July 14, and Aug. 18. We will resume the regular schedule of every other Friday beginning Sept. 15. Please keep in mind if there are things that need to be announced to all Extension personnel, that can be done via email at all_extension_staff@instranet.okstate.edu.

CURRENT EVENTS

Last Day to Register: Today is the last day to register for the Native Plants Conference slated May 31 at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus. The conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at 4:45 p.m. University and industry specialists will be on hand to share their expertise on topics such as gardening with natives, landscape design challenges of using native plants, conifers, sowing seeds, and more. Registration, which includes lunch, is $85 and due TODAY. The Botanic Garden/Friends of the Garden members, Master Gardeners, Extension Educators, linneaus gardeners, and students with ID may register for $65. ANNOUNCEMENTS

Video Series Addresses Use of Soil Moisture Sensors: As the irrigation season begins, some growers are evaluating the idea of using soil moisture sensors to better manage irrigation events and reduce energy costs associated with it. A new video series recently released on YouTube demonstrates how to install and operate several major types of sensors available in the market. The video series is in conjunction with Kansas State University and can be accessed here.

Wheat News: Bob Hunger, Extension Wheat Pathologist, has provided the most up-to-date information on wheat disease, which can be found here.  

New/Updated Publications on PODS: There are a number of new and updated publications available on the Print on Demand System at http://osufacts.okstate.edu/docushare/dsweb/HomePage. New publications include:

Condolences to: LaDonna Berry, Assistant Extension Support Specialist, Lincoln County, on the death of her father. Ronald (Ronnie) Berry passed away May 9. Funeral services took place May 13 at the Lehman Funeral Home Chapel in Wellston, Oklahoma. Cards may be sent to LaDonna in care of the Lincoln County Extension Office, 811 Manvel, Ste 2, Chandler, OK  74834.
