CURRENT EVENTS

Last Day to Register for Horse Science Academy with No Late Fee: Today is the last day to register with no late fee for the Horse Science Academy. Slated Nov. 19 at the Cline Equine Teaching Center in Stillwater, this event is open to high school students who will have an opportunity to incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines with their interest in horses. The workshop will focus on using math and science to make economical, ethical, and sustainable decisions regarding equine health care and management. Registration is $40 and includes lunch, notebook, and supplies. Registration after that date is $50. Participants may register here. Master Tapes to be Discarded: Agricultural Communications Services will soon be discarding the master tapes for all OCES teleconferences produced in the 1980s. If you believe any of these recordings are pertinent to your current program, please contact Craig Woods via telephone at 405-744-3618 or by email at craig.woods@okstate.edu, by Nov. 21 with the title and tape number. Craig will be trying to digitize the video and put it up on the OkStateDASNR YouTube channel. A list of the available videos can be found here. Please note, because these tapes are in very poor condition, it is not guaranteed they can be digitized.

Condolences to: Donna Roberts Robbins, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, and CED, Osage County, on the death of her mother. Judy White Roberts passed away Oct. 23 in Louisiana. Funeral services took place Oct. 25 in Bastrop, Louisiana. Cards may be sent to Donna at the Osage County OSU Extension Office, 623 Kihekah, 2nd Floor, Pawhuska, OK  74056.

OAE4-HA Members Honored at National Meeting: Members of the Oklahoma Association of Extension 4-H Agents travelled recently to New Orleans, Louisiana, to take part in the NAE4-HA meeting. Several members were recognized for their hard work and dedication to Oklahoma’s youth. Award winners include:

  • Kayla Swanson, Achievement in Service Award, formerly of Washington County
  • Kimbreley David, Distinguished Service Award, Southwest District
  • Arleen James, Distinguished Service Award, Texas County
  • Cathleen Taylor, Distinguished Service Award, Pottawatomie County
  • Greg Owen, Meritorious Service Award, Pittsburg County
  • Tracy Lane, 25 Years of Service Award, Tulsa County
  • Cheryl Newberry, 25 Years of Service Award, Southeast District

Faculty and Staff Recognized at AAAE Conference: Several faculty members and students attended the recent Western Region American Association for Agricultural Education conference in Tucson, Arizona. Faculty attending include Marshall Baker, Dwayne Cartmell, John Ramsey and Rob Terry. Students included Krysti Kelley and Cassie Graham.  Dwayne was recognized as the recipient of the Distinguished International Educator. Receiving the Distinguished Research Paper, entitled Understanding Why Family Units Become Involved in the Livestock Exhibition Industry: A Collective Instrumental Case Study, were Krysti Kelley, Marshall Baker and J. Shane Robinson, all of OSU, and Avery Culbertson of Fresno State University. Congratulations!
