Kahn Set to Retire: A retirement reception honoring Brian Kahn, professor in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, will take place Monday, Sept. 26, 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., in 374 Ag Hall on the OSU campus. Brian has been with OSU for more than 34 years. Congratulations on your retirement, Brian!
Organic Oklahoma Fall Conference: The Organic Oklahoma 2016 Fall Conference will take place Oct. 6-7 on the OSU/OKC campus. This annual sustainable and organic production conference is geared toward both beginning and advanced growers. Participants will learn more about the latest organic certification standards and the Food Safety Modernization Act guidelines. Industry and university experts will be on hand to share their expertise on topics including season extension strategies, irrigation, varietal selections, and best management practices for irrigation and pests. The conference also will feature hands-on demonstrations. Registration is $65 and includes lunches, breaks, facility rental and supplies. You may register here.
Fall Cattle Conference: The Mid-America Technology Center in Wayne, Oklahoma, is where the 2016 Fall Cattle Conference will take place. Slated Oct. 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., the program will feature information on market outlook, State Question 777, veterinary feed directive, bull infertility, animal mortality insurance and more. Horse Science Academy: High School students will have an opportunity
to incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines
with their interest in horses at the second Horse Science Academy. Slated Nov.
19 at the Cline Equine Teaching Center in Stillwater, the workshop will focus
on using math and science to make economical, ethical, and sustainable
decisions regarding equine health care and management. Material will be
presented via short classroom lectures, followed by a laboratory session
incorporating active application of the material. Subject matter will include
selecting equine feeds, equine anatomy, exercise physiology, and equine
digestive anatomy. Registration by Nov. 4 is $40 and includes lunch, notebook,
and supplies. Registration after that date is $50. Participants may register here.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Equine Workshops in Western Oklahoma Big Success: Justin Talley, Kris Hiney and Elisabeth Giedt recently shared programming on parasite control in cattle, horses and small ruminants in western Oklahoma. The trio traveled to Goodwell, Beaver, Boise City, and Shattuck where they met with county Extension folks, students at Oklahoma Panhandle State University, as well as community members. The group also had an opportunity to visit Black Mesa and see the dinosaur footprints.

Congratulations to: Carol Laverty, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, Harper County, on the birth of her grandson. Harrison Victor Bockelman was born Sept. 20, weighed 8 pounds, and was 21 inches long. Proud parents are Jeremy and Natalie Bockelman.
Condolences to: The family of Johnnie L. Russell, retired Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, Cleveland County. She passed away Sept. 15. Funeral services took place Sept. 19 in Norman.
