OK Compost Conference Slated Sept. 15: The 2nd OK Compost Conference will take place Sept. 15 at the CHK Central Boathouse, 732 Riversport Dr., Oklahoma City. Annie Napier, Extension Educator, Horticulture/4-H Youth Development, Oklahoma County, will be on hand to present information regarding her upcoming Master Composter Training. Her presentation builds upon the first day-long compost training that took place in the spring. Registration is $65 and students may register for $25. If you are thinking about the health of the soil in your county or are interested in a Master Composter program, come to the conference to learn the basics. For more information about the conference, or if you are unable to attend the conference but would like information on Master Composting, please contact Lynn Malley at lynn.malley@okstate.edu, or Annie Napier at annie.napier@okstate.edu.

Pesticide Application Workshop: The Fall Pesticide Application Workshop will take place Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Agriculture Resource Center on the OSU/OKC campus. Participants can earn up to four CEU credits. For additional information, please contact the Training and Development Center at tdc@osuokc.edu or call 405-945-3373.

Oklahoma Vegetation Management Association Fall Conference: The 25th Oklahoma Vegetation Management Association Fall Conference, Trade Show, and Training will take place Oct. 4-6 at the Hard Rock Hotel in Catoosa. The conference website is here. On the right side of the page are all the hotlinks for the conference, including registration information. Specific parts of the conference are approved for Oklahoma Pesticide Applicator CEUs. For more information, please contact Kathy Markham, OKVMA Secretary, at 918-256-9302. Organic Oklahoma Fall Conference: The Organic Oklahoma 2016 Fall Conference will take place Oct. 6-7 on the OSU/OKC campus. This annual sustainable and organic production conference is geared toward both beginning and advanced growers. Participants will learn more about the latest organic certification standards and the Food Safety Modernization Act guidelines. Industry and university experts will be on hand to share their expertise on topics including season extension strategies, irrigation, varietal selections, and best management practices for irrigation and pests. The conference also will feature hands-on demonstrations. Registration is $65 and includes lunches, breaks, facility rental and supplies. You may register here

Registration Open for Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show: The 71st Oklahoma Turfgrass Conference and Trade Show will take place Nov. 29-30 at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus in Stillwater. The program is not fully set, but online registration is now open. You may register here.  Full registration is $160. Congratulations to: Nathan Anderson, Extension Educator, Agriculture, and CED, Payne County, and his wife, Leslie, on the birth of their grandson. Wade Parker Anderson was born Aug. 31, weighed 9 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 21 ½ inches long.

Condolences to: Jessica Nickles, Extension Educator, 4-H Youth Development, Garfield County, on the death of her grandmother. Nettie Lorraine Copenhaver passed away Aug. 8. Funeral services took place Aug. 10 at Good Hope Cemetery near Carmen.

Condolences to: The family of Bob Treadwell, retired area agronomist who passed away Aug. 21. Funeral services took place Aug. 26 at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Snyder. He began his Extension career in 1956 as a county agent in Tillman County. He finished his career in 1986 as an area agronomist for 13 counties with his central office located in Duncan.

Condolences to: Casey Russell, Extension Educator, Agriculture, and CED, Coal County, on the death of his father. Ronnie Russell passed away Aug. 23. Funeral service took place Aug. 26 at the First Baptist Church in Durant. Memorials may be made to Reba’s Ranch House, 5036 Reba Dr., Denison, TX  75050. Cards may be sent to the Russell family at 38225 Cometti Road, Coalgate, OK  74538.

Condolences to: Donna Richard, Extension Administrative Support Specialist, Ottawa County, on the death of her mother. Doris Cox passed away Sept. 3. Funeral services took place Sept. 6. Cards may be sent to Donna at 25160 S. 542 Rd, Afton, OK  74331.
