NOTES FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

NEWSFLASH:  Great News for Extension ~ Trump and Clinton both endorse doubling Extension funding for the next four years! This news should help our budget situation tremendously. However, if you remember what day this is … you may want to check into it before you plan too far ahead. Last I checked, this is April 1st – Happy April Fool’s Day!

 CURRENT EVENTS

Backyard Poultry Conference: The Northwest Oklahoma Backyard Poultry Conference will take place TOMORROW, April 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center in Enid. This exciting new conference will provide all of the essential backyard poultry information for veteran producers, as well as beginners. Educational topics include small flock biosecurity for prevention of disease, composting for the poultry owner, preventing and treating common flock illnesses, breed selection and housing and broiler basics. Twain Lockhart, Nutrena Poultry Nutrition Specialist, will serve as the keynote speaker. Registration is $10. For more information or to register, please contact Dana Zook at 580-237-7677.

Plant Sale: The 41st Annual OSU Horticulture Club Plant Sale will take place April 9 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the OSU Teaching Greenhouses. Come early for best selection. The plant list can be seen here.

Congratulations to: Sug Farrington, Extension Educator, Agriculture/4-H Youth Development, and CED, Cimarron County, and her husband, Eddie, on the birth of their granddaughter. Kaydyn Rae Topmiller was born March 11, weighed 4 pounds, 6 ounces, and was 17 inches long. Her parents are Monte and Keylee Topmiller.

Condolences to: Liz McBee, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, and CED, Beaver County, on the death of her brother. Greg Gardner passed away March 28. Funeral services will take place today, April 1, at the Theatre Building on the Seward County Community College campus in Liberal, Kansas. Cards may be sent to Liz and her husband, Darrell, at Route 2, Box 300, Laverne, OK  73848.
