ANNOUNCEMENTS

OCES Centennial Quilt Exhibit is Available for Events: Thousands of Oklahomans and others have learned more about the Cooperative Extension Service and our recent centennial milestone through a traveling exhibit you may check out.
Featuring the OCES Centennial Quilt, which spans nearly 12 feet in width as its centerpiece, the exhibit instantly grabs the attention of passers-by. Flanking the quilt are 3-foot pull-up banners standing 7 feet tall, which provide details about Extension’s Centennial, and the process which resulted in the amazing quilt—the Centennial Quilt Block Challenge.  The “challenge banner” especially pulls viewers in because it names all quilters who entered the contest, by county, or by state if not from Oklahoma.
In close proximity to the quilt and banners requiring 18’, exhibit hosts are asked to provide a table staffed with a volunteer to share a notebook featuring photos of all 152 blocks entered in the challenge with related contest and quilt details; a guest book where viewers may sign and share comments which will eventually be archived in the Edmon Low Library; and an opportunity to obtain centennial quilt greeting cards for a $1.00 donation (recommended minimum) toward a 4-H Scholarship.
An easy-to-assemble quilt rack, the quilt, two notebooks, viewing barrier rope and four stands, floor cloths, gloves for handling the quilt, a lint roller, greeting cards, and instructions travel in two rolling cases and one bag with shoulder strap, making handling convenient for exhibit hosts.
The Centennial Quilt made many stand-alone appearances prior to the exhibit, such as State Secretary’s In-Service and the Centennial Time-Capsule Ceremony. Since the expanded exhibit has been available, it debuted at the Northeast District OHCE Meeting, quickly traveling to the NW District OHCE Meeting, moving on to a quilt show and tea room in Perry, followed by another quilt show in Ada, and the OEAFCS Annual Meeting in Oklahoma City. The exhibit remained in central Oklahoma appearing next at DASNR Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol, then to the Cleveland County Quilt Show, and remained in the southwest appearing at the Hobart Quilt Show. In July, the exhibit was featured during the State OHCE Meeting in Norman, and ended the month at the Tulsa County Fair, where it was picked up by Channel 2 television station.
To date, OCES Centennial Quilt Exhibit outings this fall include the Okmulgee County Fair, First Capitol Quilt Guild’s Show in Guthrie, the Watonga Cheese Festival, another festival at Robbers Cave, and the Arts & Crafts Show in Okfuskee County.
Looking forward to 2016, a couple of traveling highlights include the SE District OHCE Meeting in Sulphur and a multi-state event—the Tulsa Quilt Show.
Pick up and drop off point for the exhibit is typically OSU/139 Ag Hall, unless other arrangements are made in advance, and it is preferred that this responsibility be handled by Extension staff. To check the exhibit’s available dates for fall and winter 2015, across 2016, or for more details, contact Recia Garcia, Centennial Celebration Co-Chair at recia.garcia@okstate.edu or call 580 370-0394.

New Photo Database: A new photo database is now available for DASNR photos. While kitchensink.okstate.edu is still operational, photos are slowly being transitioned over to http://Kitchensink.photoshelter.com (not .edu). Currently there are photos from State 4-H Roundup and some cow/calf photos. Users should register at the site, however, in order to download the high resolution photos, users will need to contact Todd Johnson for password access. Please contact him at  todd.johnson@okstate.edu. As new photos are taken from this point on, they will be added to the new photo site. Newest additions will be featured on the front page with older photos available by checking the archive and all galleries.
