CURRENT EVENTS


Poinsettia Sale Concludes today:
The 24th Annual Poinsettia Sale will conclude today at 5:30 p.m. at the OSU Teaching Greenhouses. Poinsettia sizes range from a 4.5-inch pot for $5, a 6-inch container for $10, and an 8-inch pot for $40. Hanging baskets, along with specialty potted plants, also are available.

OK-FIRE Fall Workshops Slated:
There are two dates left to participate in the OK-FIRE workshops that are led by J.D. Carlson, OSU fire meteorologist and OK-FIRE program manager. Remaining dates and locations include Altus, Dec. 10; and Stillwater, Dec. 16. OK-FIRE is an operational weather-based decision support system (http://okfire.mesonet.org) for wildland fire managers throughout Oklahoma.  Users include multiple federal and state agencies as well as local fire departments, emergency managers, and private landowners. Registration is required and can be done by contacting Elaina Wright (elaina.wright@okstate.edu; 405-744-5425; 405-744-5431) at OSU and providing her with your name, affiliation, email address, and phone number. Applications will be accepted through the middle of the week prior to each workshop or until space is filled up, whichever occurs sooner. There is no cost for the workshops, aside from travel costs to and from the location. Additional information can be found  here.

      Congratulations to:
      Lynette Nelson, Administrative Associate, DASNR, on the birth of her grandson. Brock Kenneth Nelson was born Nov. 24, weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 19 ½ inches long. Proud parents are Eric and Julie Nelson. 

      AWARDS

      Congratulations to Brian Jervis and Tulsa Master Gardeners: Tulsa Master Gardeners “Tulsa Blooms!” were honored recently with the 2014 Environmental Excellence Award for Non-Profit Organizations. The award was presented at the 24th Annual Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Environmental Excellence Awards Celebration at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. The group was one of five finalists nominated for the award. They were recognized for the community beautification of the Brookside area in Tulsa. The project, currently in its fifth year, is designed to demonstrate how flowers will beautify a store front. Congratulations!

      COLLEGE CORNER

      CASNR Faculty/Alumna Recognized: Two CASNR faculty members and an alumna have been recognized for recent achievements. Shida Henneberry, MIAP Director, was awarded the National Excellence in Teaching Award from USDA NIFA. Dave Shideler, Agricultural Economics, was named a Stillwater Emerging Leader Under 40 by the Young Professionals of Stillwater. In addition, Agricultural Economics alumna Blayne Arthur was honored with the Woman of the Year in Oklahoma Agriculture award.
