NOTES FROM THE ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR

Centennial Events Continue: Please watch your email for information and a sign-up sheet coming soon requesting staffing at the State Fairs in Oklahoma City and in Tulsa. For those who volunteer to work, there will be a drawing for a special giveaway, watch for details!  The Oklahoma City State Fair runs September 11-21 while the Tulsa State Fair runs September 25–Oct. 5. Other dates of interest:  September 6 – DASNR Day at the OSU Football Game – watch for a code for you and your clientele to use to purchase tickets at a 50 percent discount for this game, OSU versus Missouri State. The Centennial Committee is working on several things to provide recognition to OCES during this game. If you are on campus during “the walk” (the route the team takes to Boone Pickens Stadium), take special notice at the intersection of Hester and Athletics to view the Centennial Garden. The garden will be seen by thousands of spectators throughout the football season. The Quilt Block Challenge On-line Voters Choice will end August 15, so make sure you have voted online at www.extension100.okstate.edu for your favorite quilt block. An upcoming issue of Extension News will provide the names of all the Quilt Block Award Winners in each specific category. The quilt blocks have been displayed recently at the OHCE Annual Meeting in Norman and the CARET meeting hosted by DASNR last weekend in Oklahoma City. The blocks are now in preparation of being put together to make a historical Centennial quilt which will be displayed at special locations across Oklahoma, as well as being used as a backdrop on the Centennial Float during OSU’s Homecoming Parade October 25. If you want to get involved and help with any of the Centennial/homecoming activities, please contact Charles Cox at charles.cox@okstate.edu or Recia Garcia at recia.garcia@okstate.edu,  co-chairs of the Centennial Committee.
