CURRENT EVENTS

Oklahoma Irrigation Conference: Slated Aug. 19 at the Caddo-Kiowa Technology Center in Fort Cobb, the Oklahoma Irrigation Conference will cover a number of topics that will assist producers who irrigate to become more efficient managers. Topics will include using the Oklahoma Mesonet to schedule irrigation, using moisture sensors in fields, and using smartphone apps to control center pivots and water wells. Keynote speaker will be Kent Wilkins from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board who will discuss how the state’s 50-Year Water Plan will impact producers who irrigate. Those interested in attending may register online at http://oces.okstate.edu/caddo/Oklahoma-irrigation-conference. There is a $15 per person registration fee which may be paid on the day of the conference. Four Certified Crop Advisor CEUs approved in the soil and water category will be provided. ANNOUNCEMENTS

OALP Class Features Extension Folks: Class XVII for the Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Program will include a couple of Extension people. Amanda Horn, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, Oklahoma County; and Josh Payne, Area Animal Waste Management Specialist, Northeast District, will join 23 others in this exciting two-year leadership development opportunity.

Programming Note:
Oklahoma Gardening and SUNUP will be pre-empted the weekends of Aug. 9 and Aug.16 for OETA’s AugustFest. New episodes resume on OETA the weekend of August 23. Earlier versions of both shows will continue to air weekdays as scheduled. Check local listings for OETA and OKLA channel information.

Congratulations to: Lynn Null, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, Comanche County, on earning her doctor of education degree with a specialization in educational leadership and management from Capella University. Congratulations Dr. Null!

Condolences to: Kathy Enyart, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, and CED, on the death of her father-in-law. Richard Enyart passed away July 17. AWARDS

Zhang  Honored: Congratulations to Dr. Hailin Zhang, who was named the 2014 recipient of the American Society of Agronomy – Kingenta Agricultural Science Award. This award recognizes those who have made significant contributions to Chinese agriculture with an emphasis on soil in research, teaching, Extension, and policy making, which result in securing better and sustainable food supply, implementing environmentally friendly management practices, and improving farmers’ working conditions and profitability. Hailin will be recognized during the group’s 2014 annual meeting in November.
