Environmental Law Training Being Offered: In an effort to help prevent illegal dump sites from popping up, the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are joining forces to host the Environmental Law Enforcement Officer Training. Slated March 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the training will take place at the Anadarko Public Library. Michael Freeman, senior criminal investigator with the ODEQ will be the presenter. Specialty Crops Workshop: A workshop focusing on developing a food safety plan for fresh produce operations, and an on-farm food safety assessment checklist to decrease the risk of pre- and post-harvest food safety issues, is slated March 19 at the Leach First Baptist Church in Rose, Okla. Lynn Brandenberger, OSU Horticulture Food Crops Extension and Research Specialist; William McGlynn, Horticulture Products Processing Specialist; and Jason Young, Quality Management and Global Food Safety Initiative Specialist, will be on hand to share their expertise. World Water Day: Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering will be observing World Water Day March 24 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in room 225 Ag Hall. There will be numerous presentations, including water requirement for shale oil and gas production, water requirement for agricultural and biofuel production, and water as a critical ingredient of food. An open discussion on water/energy challenges also will take place. Participants will be served free pizza. This event is sponsored by the BAE Graduate Student Association. CVHS Faculty Available for County Meetings: County Educators who are interested in hosting meetings for local farmers and ranchers may contact Elisabeth Giedt, Director of Continuing Education, Extension and Community Engagement at the Center for Veterinary Health Sciences at OSU, for help. The CVHS hosts Veterinary Voices on a monthly basis. These are evening seminars on campus during the school year and topics are presented by faculty of the CVHS. A recent Veterinary Voices featured Melanie Boileau for a talk on urinary stones in small ruminants. These seminars on posted on OState TV. Condolences to: The family of Clifton Wilkins, former Extension 4-H Agent in Ottawa and Delaware counties. He passed away Feb. 26. Funeral services took place March 4 at the First Baptist Church in Miami. Condolences can be sent to the Wilkins Family at 49500 E 100 Rd., Miami, OK 74354.

Congratulations to Donna Dollins: Donna Dollins, graphic designer, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, has been named the 2014 Regional 4-H Salute to Excellence winner for the southern region. A $200 donation will be made to the 4-H program of her choice. In addition, she will receive a $400 travel scholarship to attend the Salute to Excellence Regional 4-H Volunteer Forum. Donna also is now under consideration for national recognition, which will be announced next month during National Volunteer Week. Congratulations Donna!
