4-H’ers to Attend Blazers Hockey Game: Oklahoma 4-H’ers will be in for a good time as they attend 4-H and FFA Fun Night with Blazers Hockey on Feb. 7 at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. The Blazers will be taking on the Colorado Eagles at 7:10 p.m. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased by Jan. 29. For every ticket sold by 4-H’ers or FFA members, the Blazers will donate $5 to the Oklahoma 4-H Foundation or the FFA Foundation. In addition, club members will have the opportunity to win prizes and take part in county competitions. For ticket information, please contact your local OSU Cooperative Extension Service office or the State 4-H Office at 405-744-4493. This exciting event is sponsored by American Farmers and Ranchers.

Addressing Solid Waste Changes: The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), Oklahoma Indian Nations Chapter, presents its 2009 Symposium, “Addressing Solid Waste Challenges,” Feb. 25-26. The two-day event will take place in Catoosa, Okla., and will feature technical tours of local facilities and sessions on plastics recycling, collection equipment, collection and landfill safety, storm water runoff and the future of fuel. The symposium is cosponsored by SWANA, USDA Rural Development, and OSU Agricultural Economics Extension, Solid Waste Programs, to assist decision makers with improving and maintaining efficient waste management operations. The primary audience for this symposium includes solid waste managers and facility operators, city managers, elected officials, county commissioners, public works directors, engineers, equipment dealers, consultants, contractors, health department officials, economic developers, and the public at large. Eight SWANA continuing education credits are available. The $100 conference fee covers all materials, sessions, exhibits, two lunches, break refreshments, and bus tour.  For more information, or to pre-register, contact Ilda Hershey at 405-744-9806, or ilda.hershey@okstate.edu.


Turfgrass Disease Posters Now Available: A new poster, L-327 “Common Diseases of Turfgrass in Oklahoma” is now available. Printed on high gloss paper and measuring 24”x 36”, the poster includes high quality images of major diseases of turfgrass. The posters are free and available through the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, while supplies last (charges for postage may be necessary). For more information, contact Damon Smith at 405-744-9960, or by e-mail at damon.smith@okstate.edu.

Dues are Due: Please remember that Epsilon Sigma Phi (ESP) dues need to be sent to Jan Maples, State ESP Treasurer, before Jan. 28. Dues are as follows:  Annual Dues of Existing Members - $45; New Member Dues - $50; New Life Member Dues - $200 (Paid once at the time of retirement). Please make checks payable to Epsilon Sigma Phi and send with the form to Jan Maples, Okfuskee County OSU Extension Center, P.O. College Corner

Bacon Takes Part in International Livestock Congress: The International Livestock Congress sponsors a group of young men and ladies from not just this country, but globally as well, that are college students with a strong interest in being a part of the livestock industry after they graduate from their respective schools. Cassie Bacon, a senior at Oklahoma State University, was one of those students at the 2009 International Livestock Congress that took place recently in Denver. She is originally from Arkansas, involved with the Hereford breed and is currently pursuing a double major that focuses on Animal Science with an emphasis in Livestock Merchandising and Agricultural Communications.
