Teff Field Day Slated Aug. 15: The 2009 Teff Field Day will take place Aug. 15 beginning at 9:30 a.m. The presentation will take place in 101 Ag Hall on the OSU campus, and the field visit will take place at the Agronomy Research Station. The presentation will cover the feasibility of growing teff in central Oklahoma, weed management challenges, and nutrient requirement of teff. The field day is free, but those individuals planning to attend are asked to register by calling 405-744-4667, or sending an e-mail to kefyalew.desta@okstate.edu by Aug. 10.

Wheatland Stocker Conference: The 23rd Annual Wheatland Stocker Conference will take place Aug. 21 at the Cherokee Strip Conference Center, 123 W. Main, Enid. Topics on the agenda include cattle markets and issues; reducing cattle stress during weaning, receiving, processing, and grazing to maximize stocker production efficiency; how age and source verification can add value to stocker calves, farm policy and livestock issues in the news, and stocker cattle nutrition update. There is no registration fee and the event includes a free lunch. For more information contact Greg Highfill at 580-237-7677, or e-mail at greg.highfill@okstate.edu. Registration is due by Aug. 18.

Fall Semester Fee Waivers Due Aug. 10 - Fee waivers for the 2009 Fall Semester should be submitted no later than August 10, five working days prior to the first day of class on August 17, 2009, to Joyce Martin, 255 Ag Hall. The Educational Leave Form should accompany the fee waiver and be signed by your County Ext. Director, District Ext. Director, Department Head, and/or appropriate Unit Administrator and then forwarded to 255Ag Hall for processing. Please allow plenty of time to get these forms in by the deadline.  If you miss the deadline, the fee waiver WILL NOT be honored, no exceptions.  No letters of explanation will be accepted.  If you are a full-time faculty or staff member taking classes, you may request a fee waiver.  The form is available for download from the Office of the Registrar’s Web site, http://www.okstate.edu/registrar/FormsOnline/FSFeeWaiverForm2.pdf.  You can also pick up a blank form from the Office of the Registrar, 322 Student Union. If you have a supply of any old forms, please discard them as the form was modified on 9-11-08.

NOTE:  The Educational Leave Requests are now available on-line at the Staff Development intranet site at http://intranet.okstate.edu/staff_development.

Also, as a reminder – Distance Education Courses do have additional fees and in-service training does not require a fee waiver form.  If you have questions, please contact your immediate supervisor as they have updated information regarding the policy on Fee Waiver and Educational Leave Requests.
If your class is cancelled, you decide to drop your class, or if you change your study and education form, call Joyce Martin at 405-744-7969, so that your records can be updated.  Also, check your Bursar invoice to make sure you received the fee waiver.  You should contact the Fee Adjustment Office at 405-744-6866 if you have questions.

Congratulations to: Cherry Slaughter, secretary, Cleveland County Extension Office, on the birth of her granddaughter. Ella Joy was born July 10, weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and was 18 ½ inches long. Her parents are Christy and Carmody Rauch.

Award Winning Fact Sheet: Congratulations to Kim Rebek, Mike Schnelle, and David Hillock for receiving the 2009 American Society of Horticultural Sciences Extension Materials Fact Sheet award. The Fact Sheet, “Selecting Shrubs for the Landscape – HLA 6439,” is very comprehensive, easy to follow, and will be a valuable publication for field staff and their clientele. The Fact Sheet was designed by Gayle Hiner.
