Plant Sale a Huge Success: The OSU Horticulture Club hosted its 33rd Annual Bedding Plant Sale recently and it was a huge success. This year the community’s support exceeded all expectations.  The sale, which was scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., was sold out of plant material by 2:00 p.m.  The group also hosted a “Pre-Sale” the Thursday before the big Saturday sale for OSU Botanical Garden members. Proceeds from the plant sale go toward scholarships, and helps to offset registration fees for students to attend professional conferences. It also educates students on raising plants in a greenhouse environment, and marketing and selling their product. The OSU Horticulture Club would like to say “Thank You” to everyone for their continued support. If you would like more information about the plant sale or would like to attend the pre-sale next year, please call Donna Dollins at 405-744-6460.

Cowboy Journal Wins Awards: The Cowboy Journal placed first with the Fall 2007 issue and second with the Spring 2008 issue in the class project category in the 2008 Public Relations Society of America-OKC Chapter Zenith Awards competition. Honorable mentions were awarded to OSU students Jessica Stewart in the potpourri category, and Abby Michelle Taylor, electronic media.

Students Recognized for Achievements: Daniel Edmonds is the first Plant and Soil Sciences student to receive the Phoenix Award for Outstanding M.S. Student. He is only the third DASNR student to win this prestigious award since the 1980s. In addition, Olga Walsh was a Phoenix Award finalist in the Ph.D. category.

Top Shot: Win Adams, Applications Engineer in the Rogers County Cooperative Extension Office, took first place at the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association’s Senior Men’s Level I National Championship. The event took place last week in Tunica, Miss.
