Mills Attends Conference: Gale Mills, Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, Washington County, was an invited guest of Celia Harkey of Midwest Dairy to attend The National Dairy Council Dairy Science Forum: A New Conversation About Dairy in Washington D.C. last month.  The focus of the forum was on dairy and its nutrient package - beyond calcium with emphasis on protein, vitamin D and calcium, potassium, and magnesium.

Muske to Take Office: Glenn Muske, Interim Associate Dean/Assistant Director, Family and Consumer Sciences, has been selected to serve as president of the Association for Financial Education and Planning Association. He assumes his duties Jan. 1, 2009. The group is a professional organization focused on supporting, promoting and advancing the field of financial counseling and planning education. Membership consists of university and Cooperative Extension educators, military financial counselors, private practitioners, and interest organization and government officials.

Scholarship Applications Due Dec. 18: Applications for the William F. Taggart Scholarship are due by Thursday, December 18. The guidelines and application form for the William F. Taggart Scholarship are available online at http://intranet.okstate.edu/scholarship/.  The Scholarship application can be downloaded into a Microsoft version. Applications are due in 255 Ag Hall on or before Thurs., Dec. 18, for the spring semester. Applicants should forward completed applications to their District Extension Director for approval. The District Extension Director will then forward applications to 255 Ag Hall for review by the selection committee.

Fee Waivers Due January 5: Fee waivers for the 2009 spring semester should be submitted no later than Monday, January 5, five working days prior to the first day of class on January 12, 2009, to Joyce Martin, 255 Ag Hall.
     The Educational Leave Form should accompany the fee waiver and be signed by your County Extension Director, District Extension Director, Department Head, and/or appropriate Unit Administrator, and then forwarded to 255 Ag Hall for processing. Please allow plenty of time to get these forms in by the deadline.  If you miss the deadline, the fee waiver WILL NOT be honored, no exceptions. No letters of explanation will be accepted. If you are a full-time faculty or staff member taking classes, you may request a fee waiver. The form is available for download from the Office of the Registrar’s Web site at http://www.okstate.edu/registrar/FormsOnline/FSFeeWaiverForm2.pdf Please note this is a new site.
     You can also pick up a blank form from the Office of the Registrar, 322 Student Union. If you have a supply of any old forms, please discard them; the form was modified on 9-11-08.
NOTE:  The Educational Leave Requests are now available on-line at the Staff Development intranet site at http://intranet.okstate.edu/staff_development/.
     Also, as a reminder – Distance Education Courses do have additional fees and in-service training does not require a fee waiver form.  If you have questions, please contact your immediate supervisor as they have updated information regarding the policy on Fee Waiver and Educational Leave Requests.
If your class is cancelled, you decide to drop your class, or if you change your study and education form, call Linda Turner at 405-744-5398 so that your records can be updated.  Also, check your Bursar invoice to make sure you received the fee waiver.  You should contact the Fee Adjustment Office at 405-744-6866 if you have questions.

Condolences to: Bob Woods, Extension Area Agronomy Specialist, on the death of his father. Robert L. Woods, Sr., passed away Nov. 1. Funeral services took place Nov. 7 at the College Heights Baptist Church in Chickasha. Cards may be mailed to Bob and Donna Woods, 3315 Hyde Park Ave., Muskogee, OK  74403.

Highfill Wins Scholarship: Carrie Highfill, a meat science major, was recently  awarded a $5,000 scholarship from The Pork Checkoff, Pioneer Hi-Bred, and PIC as part of their strategy to develop the pork industry’s human capital for the future. Highfill is one of 19 students across the country that received a scholarship.


Adams Wins World Competition: Congratulations to Win Adams, Applications Engineer, for winning the 2008 Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association Sr. Men’s Level 2 World Championship. The event took place Nov. 17-21 in Amarillo, TX.

Osteen Receives Award: Sissy Osteen, Resource Management State Specialist, received the 2008 Award for Excellence in Homebuyer Education from the Oklahoma Homebuyer Education Association. The association noted her efforts to establish standards for homebuyer education and support for those standards through curriculum development and? training homebuyer education professionals. She provides educational skills to housing agencies, counselors, and educators seeking to assist Oklahomans attain economic stability through home ownership. 

Schnelle Recognized: Mike Schnelle, Extension Floriculture Specialist, was inducted into Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society on Nov. 20. Phi Beta Delta is the first honor society dedicated to recognizing scholarly achievement in international education. The society was established as a national organization in 1987 and has grown to become an international society with over 135 chapters.
