CURRENT EVENTS
President Schmidlys Town Hall Meetings: As a follow-up to the information you received in the January 30 issue of Extension News, here are the final arrangements for President Schmidlys Town Hall Meetings. Please continue to publicize these locations and help invite participants. Again, I would ask that you utilize newsletters, newspaper columns, radio interviews, etc., to help publicize these events.
On Thursday, February 26, President Schmidlys town hall event will be simultaneously broadcast between 6:30 8:00 p.m. from the Wes Watkins Center in Stillwater to fifteen cities across the state. Jennifer Reynolds, an OSU graduate and former News 9 Anchor will serve as moderator for this event. There will be an opportunity for you to ask questions at this session which will be locally hosted by OSU alumni and a member of the OSU administration. Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend the location nearest you. Additional information may be found at www.okstate.edu click on Achieving Greatness.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Judges Needed: Extension Educators and volunteers are needed to serve on either the 4-H Record Book Judging Committee or the Interview Committee. Nomination forms (found in the January 2004 Focus on Youth) must be submitted to your respective district office by March 1. Record Book judging is May 4 in Stillwater. Interviews will take place May 25. Approximately 50 Record Book judges and 25 Interview judges are needed.
Tulsa County 4-Her Honored: Tiffany Grant, a member of the Sperry 4-H Club in Tulsa County, has been named one of the top four runners-up in the 2004 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Oklahoma. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are part of a broad initiative created by Prudential to encourage young people to become involved in community service. She is being recognized for her impressive community service activities. Last year she led an effort that raised more than $2,500 to pay for dresses, shoes and beauty sessions for 19 underprivileged girls so that they could attend the high school prom. Her goal this year is to outfit 100 girls.
Condolences to: Arleen James, Texas County Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, on the death of her son, Second Lt. Luke James. Lt. James was killed by an improvised explosive device on January 27 near Iskandariyah, Iraq. A memorial service conducted by the OSU ROTC units was held on the OSU campus on February 10 to coincide with the burial service at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. A memorial book was held this week in Thatcher Hall for individuals to sign and will be presented to Mrs. Molly James and ultimately to their 6 month old son, Bradley James. James, a native of Hooker, OK, graduated from OSU with a degree in animal science and a commission into the Army on December 13, 2002. He was deployed to Iraq on January 14, 2004, as platoon leader with Bravo Company 2nd Battalion 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment.
