Current Events
A Look Into the Future: Dr. Ron
Brown, Executive Director, Association of Southern Region
Extension Directors, will be on campus Wednesday, December 4, to
speak at the annual 4-H and FCS in-service on campus at noon. In
order to allow others not involved in that in-service the
opportunity to hear Dr. Brown speak, we have scheduled a separate
seminar from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Kerr Auditorium,
Food and Agricultural Products Center. Dr. Browns seminar
entitled " Tomorrow's Extension Service

Southern Region Extension Curriculum Project. Anyone interested
in hearing Dr. Browns seminar is invited to attend.

history as the new display case honoring a century of 4-H club
work makes its debut. The ceremony will take place in the East
Lobby of Gallagher-Iba Arena at 6:30 p.m. There will be birthday
cake to make this a dual celebration and wrap up the yearlong

Email Service To Be Interrupted: The
DASNR email service will be unavailable on Saturday, November 16
from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. An electrical outage scheduled for Ag
Hall during that time will force the email system to be
unavailable. In addition, DASNRs website, including the
Oklahoma Community Listening Sessions homepage and Oklahoma
Cooperative Extension Services home page, will be
unavailable during this time. If you have any questions, please
contact Dwayne Hunter, Technology Services and Support Manager,
at 405-744-5536.
Its Not Too Late: There is still
time to submit an Integrated Pest Management proposal for
funding. The OSU IPM Program grant proposals are due on November
25 by 5:00 p.m. For more information, visit the IPM website at http://ipm.okstate.edu/ipm/minigrants.html

Meats Judging Team Brings Home Honors:
The Garfield County Meat Judging Team represented Oklahoma at the
2002 National Meat Judging Contest in Kansas City. Oklahoma
placed 2nd overall by a mere four points. The team also placed
1st in both total judging and beef judging; 2nd in pork judging;
and 3rd in reasons, retail judging, and meat identification.
There were 15 state teams and 59 individuals who took part in the
competition.
Television Stars: Extension Educators
from Atoka and Coal counties have been participating in a
Partnership for Change program sponsored by USDA-FNS Southwest
Region. The partnership was formed to include groups with
different missions that come together to develop alternative
solutions to nutrition program accessibility issues. During
November and December one of the partners, Choctaw Nation WIC, is
sponsoring TV commercials promoting nutrition service agencies.
Atoka and Coal County Extension programs will be featured. The
commercials will air on KTEN during the morning and evening news
broadcasts.
Christmas Break Closing: In addition to
the regular scheduled Christmas Break, the Stillwater campus has
announced plans to be closed on December 23, January 2, and
January 3. Campus-based Extension employees who accumulate annual
leave will be assessed 24 hours of annual leave for these three
days. OFF-CAMPUS Extension personnel will
not be affected by this change. Off-campus Extension
personnel are expected to adhere to the Christmas Break schedule
appropriate to their duty station. Lave requests for off-campus
Extension personnel should be routed through normal channels.
Caring for Planet Earth a Big Success at the Tulsa State Fair:
A big thank you to everyone who helped make the Caring for Planet
Earth Exhibit at the 2002 Tulsa State Fair a success. This
exhibit provides outstanding visibility to 4-H, the Oklahoma
Cooperative Extension Service, the Division of Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources, and OSU. This exhibit is a major
undertaking that is only possible because of the many people who
work together and devote endless hours to developing, installing,
and staffing the exhibit. A big thank you to the staff, faculty,
students, and spouses who devoted their time to staffing the
exhibit throughout the fair. In addition, 144 youth and adult
volunteers also devoted time and energy to staffing the exhibit.
Service Pins Still Available: The Staff
Advisory Council distributed Years of Service pins during Staff
Awards Day on November 7. If you were unable to pick up your pin
at that time, they are still available in 106 Whitehurst. County
staff who will be on campus December 3-5 for the 4-H and FCS
Statewide In-Service are encouraged to pick up their pins at that
time. If you have any questions, please call Trisha Gedon at
405-744-3625.
