Smart Sprayer Unveiled: The Oklahoma Agricultural Experiment Station will unveil a device that promises to revolutionize the farming industry. It's called the "smart" sprayer because it can electronically sense what each and every plant needs (fertilizer, etc.) and spray the proper amount as a tractor moves through a field. The unveiling of this amazing machine is scheduled October 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Noble Research Center (NRC). Highlights include the signing of a technology transfer agreement between OSU and a high-tech commercial company called NTech. The company will manufacture the machine, which will be called "GreenSeeker." Norman Borlaug, the only Nobel Peace Prize recipient for agriculture, and father of the worldwide "Green Revolution," will be here to participate. Borlaug will speak on "Emerging Technologies and Agricultural Change" from 11 a.m. to noon in NRC 106.

Displays Available for County Use: Several displays from the Caring for Planet Earth exhibit are available for county use. The interactive Animal Tracks display features four sets of tracks that are often confused with one another or are commonly found in the same habitats. The tracks include bobcat/mountain lion, beaver/otter, turkey/heron, and opossum/armadillo. The display provides information about each species and prompts users to identify tracks based on the information. The size of the display is 30X36X4 and 110 electricity is needed.

The Tree Rings display includes a tree cookie from a post oak, magnifying glass, ruler, and background information on tree rings as well as the history of the sample tree. Users are prompted to answer questions about the tree cookie. The size is 30X36X4 and no electricity is needed.

The Forest Regions of Oklahoma display features a map of Oklahoma with major forest regions identified. By pressing the button on the map, one of four windows lights up to reveal the forest region, as well as some basic information about the forests found there. The size is 36X30X4 and 110 electricity is needed.

These displays may be used individually or they can be assembled with a fourth panel that is a felt display board to form a standup tabletop display. There is a base available but it is awkward and heavy.
