Organic Worship, Field Day, and Train the Trainer Session Set in July: There is still time to register for the 2010 Oklahoma Organic Workshop and Field Day, slated July 22 at the Lane Agricultural Center at Lane. This event will enable both growers and those who assist them to learn more about the transition to organic farming. The event is sponsored by Oklahoma State University, USDA Agricultural Research Service, South Central Agricultural Research Laboratory, The Oklahoma SARE program, Kerr Center for Sustainable Agriculture, and the Atoka County Extension Office. Topics geared specifically for trainers include Soil Aspects of Organic Farming, Resources for Providing Training in Organics, The Certification Process, and Microbial Products Under Evaluation for Use in Soil-borne Disease Management. A meal is provided for all registered participants. For more information contact Janel Malone at 405-744-3669.

Congratulations to: Melanie Taylor, McIntosh County Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences/4-H Youth Development, and her husband, Jerry, on the birth of their son. Carsen Wayne Taylor was born May 26, weighed 5 pounds, 1 ounce, and was 18 inches long. He joins big brother Reed and big sister Elizabeth.

Congratulations to: Rhonda DeVor, Woodward County Extension Educator, Family and Consumer Sciences, and her husband, Bill, on the adoption of their son. Aiden William was born Aug. 13, 2008.  He is welcomed into the family by big sister April, who is 30, and big brothers Heath and Levi, who are 27 and 25, respectively.



SUNUP Receives Gold Award: The SUNUP television production team received a gold award in the 2010 critique and awards program conducted by the Association for Communication Excellence (ACE) in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences. The team includes Clinton Griffiths, Dave Deken, and Austin Moore. Their winning entry in the news and feature category was recognized during the recent international ACE meeting in St. Louis. The ACE critique and awards program honors communicators for excellence in a wide array of professional skills. Entries are evaluated on content, effectiveness, creativity, and technical quality.
