Abstract: The American Society of Agronomy (ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA), and the Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) invite applications for the Congressional Science Fellowship Program. The fellow(s) selected will spend one year in Washington, DC, applying their professional and scientific expertise as special assistants on the staffs of members of Congress, Congressional committees, or governmental agencies. The purpose of this fellowship is to make practical contributions to the more effective use of science and technical knowledge in government, to demonstrate the value of such science-government interaction, to inform the scientific and educational communities about public policy and the legislative process, and to provide a unique public policy learning experience.

Abstract:

The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) is dedicated to a better understanding of the equine through research of the most common equine management problems and increased knowledge of equine health care and treatment. Research priorities include the following: diagnosis and treatment of acute gastrointestinal disorders (colic, etc.); diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal defects of nutritional origin (OCD, epiphysitis, etc.); diagnosis and treatment of reproductive disorders (endometritis, etc.); immunization of foals; diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (potomac fever, salmonella, etc.); diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases (bleeders, pneumonia, etc.); Vesicular Stomatitis Virus (VSV); and Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM).

Abstract:

Purina Mills, Inc. annually makes Research Fellowship Awards to outstanding graduate students in food and companion animal sciences. The fellowships assist in the training of personnel for leadership in the nutritional sciences of production animals. Awards are made primarily in the field of nutrition and interrelated disciplines as applied to animal, dairy, and poultry science. Three awards are made each year. The assistance must be applied to graduate study conducted during the fellowship year. The intention is to award one fellowship each in dairy, animal, and poultry science; however, this allocation may be altered at the discretion of the selection committee after review of all applications.

801/975-3444. WEB: nmontgom/wo_gstc@fs.fed.us. Contractor provides on-site remote sensing project support for a national technical unit. An additive option is proposed for aerial collection of imagery, sensor evaluation, and other remote sensing project work conducted from a aircraft platform. This is proposed five-year contract, renewable each year, with indefinite quantity, indefinite delivery provisions. This unit currently provides remote sensing support to Forest Health (insect & disease), Law Enforcement and Investigations, and Fire and Aviation Management. Subject areas of deliverables include, but are not limited to: thermal infrared sensor evaluation reports; studies, report, and test evaluations of digital camera systems; digital video system comparisons and technology transfer; aircraft platform studies; advanced detection systems; vegetation studies using all facets of remote sensing technology; evaluation of satellite imagery and associated products for all sponsor needs; evaluations of RADAR, LIDAR, and passive RF imaging technology; studies on various ways of utilizing digital maps for display and logging of observations; conducting remote sensing training to groups as well as one-on-one training of field personnel; making presentations on remote sensing capabilities for various natural resources uses; attending meeting to gather information for federal supervisors; making economic recommendations on various courses of action utilizing remote sensing technology; advanced uses of GPS positioning equipment and techniques; coordinating work program in remote sensing with other federal agencies, states and local entities; and providing general assistance to the COR, the Program Leader for LSP. Additionally, work within the program includes utilizing and coordinating work with classified national reconnaissance assests, and as such will requires at least one contractor employee to be capable of obtaining and maintaining a TOP SECRET/SCI security clearance.
